Biography

Hailing from a working-class Middlesbrough family, Mackenzie Thorpe overcame undiagnosed dyslexia and early manual labour to pursue art. After studying at Cleveland College of Art and Byam Shaw School, he opened his Richmond gallery in 1989. His emotive paintings and sculptures, exhibited globally, reflect universal themes. Honoured with a Seisa University doctorate in 2019, Thorpe’s philanthropy supports disadvantaged children, cementing his legacy as a national treasure.
